About
Mathematical Biology Seminar Dr. Yuanwei Qi (UCF Dr. Yvette Kanouff School of Data, Mathematical, and Statistical Sciences) will speak on "Some recent works on the Gatenby and Gawlinski Model of Cancer Invasion" at this week's seminar. Abstract: In this work a reaction-diffusion system modelling tumor invasion is investigated. The model is proposed by renowned biologist and cancer expert Gatenby of the Moffitt Cancer Center and his collaborator. The underlying partial differential equation system has cross-diffusion and density-dependent degenerate diffusion coefficient. We prove the existence and smoothness of the Initial-Boundary Value problem with no-flux boundary condition. More importantly, a rigorous proof of existence of traveling wave solution is proved, providing valuable insight to the dynamics of cancer invasion. Short Bio: Dr. Yuanwei Qi is a professor in the Dr. Yvette Kanouff School of Data, Mathematical, and Statistical Sciences at the University of Central Florida. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Computational Mathematics at Peking University, China, and his Master of Science degree in Mathematics at the Chinese Academy of Science. He earned PhD in Mathematics at the University of Oxford, where he researched the blow-up of quasi-linear parabolic equations. His research focuses on nonlinear partial differential equations arising from models in mathematical biology, chemistry, fluid mechanics, and finance.
